Where to stay

Edinburgh is very welcoming of tourists and there are lots of accommodation options, from budget hotels to fancy boutiques to Airbnbs in historic buildings.

We would recommend staying in the city centre, near to the wedding venue. That will make it easy for you to enjoy Edinburgh’s main tourist attractions and to get around.

The train station, Edinburgh Waverley, is right in the heart of the city. It is also very easy and cost-effective to get from Edinburgh Airport to the city centre via the Tram.

Leith

Another good option is Leith, to the North East of the city centre. It is a trendy, up-and-coming part of town, with lots of independent shops and cafés, as well as some local colour.

Irvine Welsh’s novel Trainspotting, later adapted into a film starring Ewan McGregor, was set in Leith.

Leith is well-served by bus routes and the Tram.

If you’d prefer a quieter backdrop to your stay, you could consider a guesthouse or an Airbnb near to Portobello Beach, to the East of the city centre.

This is the part of town we live in. We love our walks along the beach with ice creams.

Travel to the city centre is via bus or taxi and can take anything between 20 and 45 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
